Abstract

This research is entitled Breaking the Stereotype Wall: Challenging Stereotypes in Multicultural Counseling. Stereotypes are commonly held assumptions or beliefs about a group of people based on certain characteristics. Stereotypes are often inaccurate and can be harmful as they can lead to prejudice and discrimination. Therefore, we must have an attitude of tolerance in diversity to minimize the occurrence of stereotypes. Of course, stereotypes are a big obstacle in multicultural counseling. The presence of stereotypes can cause counselors to make wrong assumptions about their clients, which can result in misdiagnosis, inappropriate interventions, and even damage to the counseling relationship. The purpose of this study is to eliminate stereotypes in the multicultural counseling process. This study is qualitative research with the aim of gaining an understanding of stereotypes in multicultural counseling. The type of research is a literature study to examine the impact of stereotypes in multicultural counseling and its handling. The data used in this research is secondary data obtained indirectly. The data obtained was taken from several documents relevant to the research. Data collection techniques in the research were carried out by reviewing previous research journals and books relevant to stereotypes in guidance and counseling. The data analysis technique used is qualitative analysis.
