Abstract

A film is a series of sound-recorded images that tell a story presented in the film industry for a commercial art form. As
a popular form of media, film has been adapted by individuals, companies, and independent groups to entertain, inform,
criticize, and educate others in a variety of ways. Films that have social reality content make people more open to issues
and realities of life. Sometimes film is not only used as a medium that reflects the form of reality, but can also be a trigger
or shaper of reality itself, for example in the film Gangubai Khatiawadi where this film wants to break the bad stigma
on commercial sex workers (CSWs) and the struggle of women prostitutes to maintain their dignity. they. The purpose of
this study is to analyze the social reality of discrimination represented in the film Gangubai Khatiawadi. Using the genre
analysis method, Jane Stokes describes genre analysis as a process of rhetorical analysis of a text or a series of texts
involving conventions within the genre which are divided into six categories, namely: setting, location, iconography,
narrative events, characters and plot structure. in the story. The result of this research is that this film fulfills the six
convention categories
