Ancaman Westernisasi Terhadap Budaya Lokal Indonesia Dari Perspektif Komunikasi Massa

Abstract

In modern times, the emergence of the concept of Westernization in media and information has increased very
rapidly. Starting from moral values, cultural diversity, attitudes & behavior of Western culture which are
symbolized by the media to obtain and create certain meanings for society, especially by youth. The spread of
Western culture itself is very influential on changes in general society. So that the global community will have
the same style and pattern of life as Western society. Through the spread of Western culture, it began to spread
ideology which could lead to cultural similarities with Western culture. An example of a concept that represents
Westernization is that many Indonesian people consider foreign cultures to be better than native Indonesian
cultures. This makes them prefer to study the culture of western countries and the influence of Westernization
becomes greater. In accordance with the results of our survey, the comparison we provide is the comparison
between watching modern films or traditional theater such as ludruk. They are more interested in watching
modern films even though they have to pay a lot. Westernization itself is becoming more developed with the
tendency of people to follow current trends which tend to be more inclined to western culture. The normalization
shown by the community in responding to foreign cultures is also a problem in itself. Apart from that, this
research will look for a common thread between communication technology and westernization. How people can
be more influenced and interested in western culture than indigenous culture.
