Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of what happens to a child in a broken home family. This research is based
on the experiences of our informants about their family disharmony. This has an impact on children both psychologically and
emotionally in their socializing to the outside world. Incomplete families are also our study in conducting interview sessions so that
our data is optimally available. The direct interaction that we apply with the informants will make the data results that are
achieved well into scientific objectives. We conducted this research in Gayungan District, Ketintang Surabaya with the informants
being two students with the initials N and AN who are children of a broken home. The interviews were carried out with proper
interview procedures and ethics. Data collection techniques used are indirect observation, and in-depth interviews. In this study,
the sampling technique used was a purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria. The data analysis technique used is an
interactive analysis model that uses three main components, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification of data trangulation methods and sources are used to obtain data with a high level of validity. In summary, the results of this study are to determine the mental condition of children who experience a broken home. This study provides integrated information about the mental condition of a child. This is caused by several factors, including family socioeconomic, social environment, religious values adopted, the personality of the parents and the number of children. The parenting pattern used by each parent of a family is definitely different, this difference in parenting will have a different impact on children, one of these impacts is the formation of characteristics in children. The analysis we can conclude from this study results that the object of
research Our opinion about a child's mental health can have a negative or positive impact depending on how the child responds.
