Abstract

Literacy is an important factor needed by humans. Literacy can support at least one's knowledge, in other words literacy
is needed by the whole community, both children and parents. With literacy, people will know how they can behave and
make decisions. But what about when a library or reading park has been established to support literacy aimed at
elementary school students but is deserted by immigrants. This is what is interesting for researchers, actually how
elementary school students interpret the reading garden facilities established by the Tuban 2 KKNT group so that
visitors to the reading park are empty of interest. This study uses the Symbolic Interaction theory by H.Blummer which
emphasizes the meaning of community groups towards an object or subject. The purpose of this study is to find out in
detail the meaning of Elementary School students related to the Reading Gardens, in addition to knowing the
background of why the visit to the Reading Gardens is relatively quiet, by using this theory it will be known how the
meaning can affect the the act of "visiting" them. The results obtained are that the meaning of Taman Baca is still closely
related to the meaning of literacy. This is evidenced by the fact that the researchers conducted interview sessions were
more likely to admit that they liked reading but had various obstacles in coming to visit the Reading Gardens
