Abstract

The incident of children experiencing stunting has become a health and nutrition problem that is no longer a taboo subject. At
first this stunting was considered a common thing, harmless, and hidden. This thought originated from the bad stigma of society
towards children under five with nutritional disorders. The community considers children with nutritional disorders including
stunting to be embarrassing, because they tend to blame both parents for failing to raise children. Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive that occurs in toddlers (babies under 5 years old) which results in chronic malnutrition so that children are too short for their age. Stunting has a dangerous risk if left untreated it will have an impact on the child's health condition worsening. The family is the closest unit to stunting toddlers. The purpose of this study was to find out how the strategies adopted by families of stunting toddlers in the process of adding nutrition, based on their experience of caring for stunting toddlers. Therefore, the theory and approach used in this research is Phenomenology by Husserl. Phenomenology is used to observe phenomena that occur. The phenomena described in the form of actions, behaviors, and knowledge as outlined in natural language sentences are based on the four informants regarding their experiences of caring for stunted children. The results of this study indicate that the family has a very important role in the process of adding nutrition to toddlers, but on the other hand toddlers experiencing stunting are also the impact of families who have low awareness, are less sensitive and lack knowledge. Based on the experience of informants caring for stunting toddlers has a different pattern from healthy toddlers. Stunting toddlers have vulnerable health and lack of weight and height. The role of family members in parenting is needed so that stunting toddlers can meet their nutritional needs.
