Abstract

Students are students who have been registered at one of the universities and have met all the requirements and
regulations that have been set. The younger generation or students are one element that cannot be separated from
consumption patterns and consumerism, besides that consumptive attitudes are also part of students as members or part
of society. Apart from these three things, students' lifestyles are also influenced by consumption patterns, consumer
attitudes, and consumptive behavior. The problem of consumerism is a problem that cannot be separated from overseas
students. The sparkling big city that provides everything, if you can't control yourself, it will be carried away into the life
of the consumer. This study aims to find out about overseas students and consumerism in Wonokromo District who
remain frugal in style or are even carried away by consumerism. The research was conducted using qualitative methods.
Primary data was generated from interviews with overseas students in Wonokromo sub-district. Secondary data is
obtained from journal articles, books, websites or other literature on the Internet. This study was analyzed using the
theory of differences in consumption patterns from Emil Durkheim. The results of this study indicate that overseas
students in Wonokromo District choose to remain frugal by limiting consumption patterns so as not to consume
excessively.
