Abstract

The aim of this reasearch is to convey the message written in the CNN Indonesia report regarding
Malaysia’s claim of Reog Ponorogo. This research uses a qualitative methods, namely content
analysis of news texts written by the Editors of CNN Indonesia and then explained in more detail in
the form of scientific articles. This was done by researches because we wanted to create a border
understand in regarding the topic being discused. The research results show that the cause of this
controversy is a misunderstanding or miscommunication by the Indonesian people and this has
received an official statement from the Malaysian side which was conveyed by Deputy Ambassador
of Malaysia Adlan Mohd Shaffeq. From the understanding of the Indonesianm people, especially
people from the Ponorogo area, they think that Reog Ponorogo has really been claimed by
Malaysia and already belongs to Malaysia but in reality Malaysia has never claimed Reog
Ponorogo at all, leta lone submitted it to UNESCO. With the research it is hoped that people will
be more through and careful in drawing conclusions, it would be better to investigate first what the
problem is.
