Abstract

The development and sophistication of information technology is currently bringing changes to society. Every child has broad
access to information technology, especially smartphones, tablets and personal computers. Therefore, parents play an
important role in supervising their children's use of digital media. The issue that will be raised in depth is how parents monitor
their children's use of digital media. In this research, researchers used functional theory. Apart from that, researchers also
use a qualitative approach to support their research. The results of this research show that most parents carry out passive
supervision, namely limiting their children's time using media and monitoring what sites their children visit. A small number
carry out active supervision such as teaching and directing children in the family using digital media, especially the internet,
and using the internet together with children. The method of supervision carried out by parents regarding the effectiveness of
children's use of digital media is an active supervision model where parents are actively involved in monitoring or supervising,
