Abstract

This study aims to describe people's perceptions of money politics during village head elections
in Kepatihan Village. The method used is a qualitative approach. The techniques used in this
study were observation, interviews and literature studies. The theory used is Max Weber's theory
of action, where human action is not only determined by norms, habits, and values but also by
social facts, in which this theory is oriented to beliefs, motivations, and goals. As for the results
of this study, people's perceptions that money politics violates the law, but with money politics as
a sign of gratitude and an approach in voting for potential partners. However, there is a
perception that all political action is not only about money, but seen from various factors in
selecting prospective leaders, it is not always money politics. The public evaluates candidate
pairs based on vision, mission, background, positive actions, job prospects, responsibility and
trustworthiness. The impact is caused by the community's dependence on money politics, the
existence of political power becomes a matter of interested individuals, the loss of society's
critical attitude towards power, manipulation in social relations will arise, and corrupt behavior
will arise
