The level of population density, which in some areas still experiences inequality with the value of quality of life, has
caused many people to flock to migrate to big cities which are considered to be able to create good fortune for
themselves, thereby realizing a quality of life for themselves and their families. These increasing efforts have created
an urbanization phenomenon. The city of Surabaya, which is the research location, is a city that has many attractive
factors for people to live in it. The many job opportunities, access to high education, and complete public facilities
make Surabaya a place visited by many migrants. For this reason, research was carried out to determine the
urbanization phenomenon occurring in Surabaya, especially among young people. The method used is qualitative
research with phenomenology theorized by Husserl. In the stages, eiditis reduction, phenomenological reduction
and transcendental reduction are carried out to determine the phenomena that occur. As a result, Husserl's
phenomenological analysis which focused on pure consciousness found that informants who were successfully
interviewed stated that they consciously chose the city of Surabaya as their place of migration to gain increased
knowledge so that, in their hopes, an improvement in the quality of their life could be created. Apart from that, in
the reduction stage it was also found that there was pure awareness obtained from the life experiences of the
perpetrators, thus creating new adjustments within themselves and completely refining their views on the
urbanization they were carrying out without being influenced by other phenomena they had experienced or heard
about.
