Abstract

Indonesia has two seasons, namely the rainy season and the dry season. Currently, Indonesia is experiencing a
prolonged dry season which is uncertain when it will end. BMGK has predicted that a prolonged dry season will
occur from July to peak in August 2023. A prolonged dry season will have a drought impact and has already
occurred in 17 regions in East Java. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to analyze the risk of disasters due
to the prolonged dry season in East Java. The method used is a qualitative approach with a functional structural
theory perspective. The research results show that a prolonged dry season will result in drought disasters, fire
disasters, and will also have an impact on the economy. Apart from that, a prolonged dry season can also be caused
by an El Nino event. There are 3 solutions to reduce drought disasters, namely, carrying out reforestation or
greening, conducting educational outreach regarding drought disasters, and building water dams to store water
reserves
