Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in enhancing elementary school students' problem-solving skills. SEL emphasizes the five core competencies established by CASEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a modified Borg and Gall model. The research stages included a preliminary study, initial product design, expert validation, limited field testing, product revision, and extended field testing. The findings indicate that the implementation of SEL effectively enhanced students' emotional awareness, self-regulation, critical thinking skills, collaborative abilities, and sense of responsibility. Furthermore, SEL contributed positively to students' literacy skills and reduced disruptive classroom behaviors. These findings suggest that SEL can be systematically integrated into the elementary school curriculum as a strategic approach to strengthening character education and fostering 21st-century competencies.
