Abstract

This study developed and evaluated an Adaptive Scaffolding Application based on Google Workspace for mathematics instruction in elementary schools. The application was designed to improve fifth-grade students' ability to solve fraction word problems and enhance their learning motivation. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, followed by a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The participants consisted of 24 fifth-grade students from two different elementary schools. Validation by subject matter experts, media experts, and classroom teachers indicated that the application achieved a "Highly Valid" rating, with an average score of 4.57 out of 5. Practicality testing conducted by teachers and students classified the application as "Highly Practical," with a combined score of 85%. Effectiveness testing using SPSS 26 statistical analysis demonstrated that the application significantly improved students' cognitive performance in solving fraction word problems (p = 0.007; Cohen's d = 1.21). However, although a positive practical impact on students' learning motivation was observed, the improvement was not statistically significant (p = 0.293). Overall, the findings indicate that the Adaptive Scaffolding Application is valid, practical, and effective in enhancing elementary school students' mathematics learning outcomes.
