Abstract

The rapid growth of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services among the millennial generation has posed
challenges to financial management, emphasizing the importance of understanding the factors that
influence financial management behavior. This study aims to examine the effects of financial literacy,
financial self-efficacy, self-control, peer influence, emotional intelligence, and income on financial
management behavior. The object of this study was the millennial generation using paylater services in
Lamongan Regency, with a total sample of 180 respondents. The respondents were selected using purposive
sampling combined with snowball sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire
distributed via Google Forms. This study employed a quantitative approach with a causal research design,
and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with IBM SPSS version 25. The results indicate
that financial literacy, financial self-efficacy, and emotional intelligence have positive and significant
effects on financial management behavior. In contrast, self-control, peer influence, and income have no
significant effect on financial management behavior. These findings imply that improving financial literacy,
financial self-efficacy, and emotional intelligence may encourage more responsible financial management
among millennial paylater users. This study is limited to millennial paylater users in Lamongan Regency.
Therefore, future research is recommended to involve broader populations and examine additional
variables that may influence financial management behavior.
