This study examines the consumption behavior of female mahasantri (student-residents) at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah IAIN Ambon and evaluates it from an Islamic economics perspective. The study employs a descriptive qualitative field-research design. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving eight female mahasantri aged 20–22 years, and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that all eight informants exhibited impulsive buying, while six of eight exhibited wasteful buying and non-rational buying. Monthly expenditure ranged from IDR 700,000 to IDR 1,000,000. Six informants had not consistently applied the Islamic principle of moderation, as reflected in duplicate purchases, trend-driven consumption, peer influence, and the prioritization of wants over needs. The study is limited to eight informants in one campus-based ma'had and relies substantially on self-reported interview data. Future research should compare campus-based ma'had across regions and test the findings quantitatively. Practically, the results indicate the need to integrate personal financial literacy, fiqh muamalah, and Islamic consumption ethics into ma'had coaching. Socially, such reinforcement may help students translate religious knowledge into more responsible everyday consumption.
