This study examines the influence of competence and workload on employee performance at the
Department of Education of Surabaya City, highlighting the critical role of human resource quality in
enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of government institutions, particularly in the education sector. Employing a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis, the research involved 60 respondents from the department, using questionnaires that were validated and tested for reliability. Data analysis, conducted using the latest version of SPSS, included t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R2). The findings indicate that both competence and workload have positive and significant effects on employee performance, both individually and simultaneously. Therefore, continuous improvement of employee competence and proportional workload management are essential strategies for enhancing overall performance.
